Marcus Sir's Uniform Cheatsheet (:

Hey Guys, this is Xin Jie here. This my first post here so yeah (:

Seeing that neither Aloysius or I have been procrastinating, I shall post it for you guys (: Please pass on this message as Marcus Sir wants all of us to know all this by the next training. On with the tips.

Beret:

  • Air it once you go home as it will stink
  • Put it under parent's bed (advised unless you can find a heavier object) for about 2 weeks until there is a distinct line
  • Must have strong backing so that NPCC crest will not move (Purpose of backing)
  • Backing must be waterproof; distance between backing and crest minimised

Shirt:

  • Buttons must NOT face wrong way (Marcus Sir says he will slaughter anyone commits this mistake so be careful!)
  • Iron line of collar must be in line with formation sign (in line with the left face)
  • Shirt must not cover more than half of belt

Pants:

  • Iron Line start from belt loop
  • Must meet as V-shape at the back
  • Alter pants so that the pants are not long enough to be seen past the top two loops of your shoe
  • Tip here, iron the line (forgot the word here, pardon me, I'll try to explain) individually. Gah, wrong word, essentially it means to "break up" the ironing process for the iron lines, so that you do it bit by bit. This ensures that the lines are distinct, and there is only one line, which is the next point.
  • Must have only one line, as having more than one will lead to something like some of our twine in campcraft; it starts off as one line then breaks off into many.
  • Bring belt buckle, two fingers from the end of the belt

Boots:

  • Basically, just hardcore polish. (Seriously, that's what he said)
  • Polish Toe Cap, then back, then rest of the shoe.

Okay, so that's it (: Any queries, can sms me or post on tag board. Don't know my number, ask around or check communications list :D

PS: Aloysius, edit this post if I missed out anything =P

PSS: I took someone's beret home on POP. Please SMS me and tell me whether you want me to season for you if you lost yours xD

It's A Small World

It's a world of laughter, it's a world of tears
It's a world of hope and a world of fears
There's so much to share
That it's time we're aware

It's a small world after all

Chorus: It's a small world after all (3x)
It's a small small world

There is just one moon and a golden sun
And a smile means friendship for everyone
Though the mountains divide and oceans are wide
It's a small world after all
(Chorus)

Jamaican Farewell

Down the way where the nights are gay
And the sun shine daily on the mountain top
I took a trip on a sailing ship
And when I reach Jamaica, I made a stop

Chorus:
But I'm sad to say, I'm on my way
Won't be back for many a day
My heart is down, my head is turning around
I have to leave a girl in Kingston Town

Sounds of laughter everywhere
And those dancing girls swing to and fro
I must declare my heart is here
Though I've been to Maine and Mexico

I Asked My Love

I ask my love, to take a walk
To talk a walk, down orchard road
By pass Mandarin, to Centrepoint
Where we had lunch, at MacDonald

We had fillet, and apple pie
And share a cup, of lemon lime
I hold her hands, look into her eyes

And asked her to, be my Valentine
Now I'm confined, in NPCC
I missed you so, my sweet honey
I promised you, when I book out
I call you out, and date you out

There was one night, we went night hike
There was no light, so we use torchlight
Under the clear moonlight, look into her eyes
I asked her to, be my future wife

But she rejected me, she turned me down
She turned her head, and said good-bye
I was so sad, now she had gone
So I turned my way to the airport

When I reached the airport, I was alone
I looked around, and saw my love
There was one guy, standing beside her
I was so sad and departed

So I named this song, a sad sad song
Cos' it breaks my heart, and filled it with tears
Oh my darling, now that you have gone
Left me alone to sing this song

I'm a Texas Star

So I turned my way to the airport
When I reached the airport, I was alone
I looked around, and saw my love
There was one guy, standing beside her
I was so sad and departed
So I named this song, a sad sad song
Cos' it breaks my heart, and filled it with tears
Oh my darling, now that you have gone
Left me alone to sing this song

When you get to heaven

When you get to heaven

St. Peter's got to say

How to get to heaven

How you earn you pay

I reply with a little bit of anger

I earn my pay as a mighty soldier

Living in a life full of fun and danger

Hey, hey what you see now

Oh may I go a-wandering NPCC on its way now

When you get to Ubin

When you get to Ubin

The CIs got to say

How you get to Ubin

How you find your way

I reply with a little bit of humour

I find my way in a helicopter

Flying through the air like a Captain Purple

Hey, hey. What you see now

Campers, campers on their way now

In The Morning

In the morning , in the morning,

In the morning, 5BX,

Run like donkey, jump like monkey,

In the morning, 5BX

In the afternoon, in the afternoon,

In the afternoon, after lunch,

Mess tin oily, rifle rusty.

Corporal scold me upside down

In the evening, in the evening,

In the evening, extra drill,

Kiri pusing, kana pusing

Blakang pusing, semula

In the night time, in the night time,

In the night time, cooling time,

Think of mother, think of father

Think of girlfriend, buay tahan!

thats all i have .

cheers,

haochen

This is a example of Classroom Lessons.

As you see from the previous blog, the Classroom Lessons are mostly conducted by Teacher Officers or members of the police force. However,in our school,it is Javan Sir who told us everything. So,this is briefly what did Javan Sir had thought us.(its a lot and can't believed that Javan Sir could memorise everything!!)

Laying the Groundwork
1959 – A pilot scheme was launched whereby a Police Cadet Corps (PCC) Unit was set up on an experimental basis. Bartley Secondary School formed the first unit with 30 cadets and a teacher officer.
2 Jun 1961 – The Police Cadet Corps Ordinance was enacted. All schools were given approval to set up PCC units. Siglap Secondary School and Serangoon Garden Government High School were the first to form such units.
1963 – The PCC and the National Cadet Corps (NCC) came under the administration of the Ministry of Education (MOE) with the Director of Education as the Director of Cadet Forces and in the following year, the PCC recruited girl cadets. Two new units were formed in the Raffles' Girls' Secondary School and Sang Nila Utama Secondary School.
1968 – Formation signs were introduced for unit identity.
1969 – With the integration of PCC, Army, Air & Sea, the PCC was renamed National Cadet Corps (Police).
Consolidating The Ground
1970 – Cadet Inspectors' unit was formed from students in Pre-u classes.
1971 – The NCC (Police) was renamed National Police Cadet Corps (NPCC). The NPCC band was also formed in the same year.
1972 – The "grey and khaki" uniform was changed to the present all-blue.
1974 – The NPCC Council was established by an Act of Parliament.
1 Apr 1975 – The NPCC Council was inaugurated by the Minister for Education.
1976 – The NPCC Band recruited girl cadets.
1979 – The NPCC service medals and clasps were introduced for officers and a year later, Proficiency Badges for cadets were introduced.
Maneuvering The Ground
1980 – This period of time saw many initiatives being introduced to the Corps: the proficiency badges were introduced in 1980 in the hope of generating greater interest and opening up avenues to challenge cadets to achieve and excel.
1982 – The NUS NPCC Unit was established in 1982 to allow ex-cadets to continue their involvement in the Corps. These ex-cadets are known as "Honorary Officers".
1983 – The NPCC Pledge and NPCC March were introduced in 1983 and 1984 respectively to nurture a distinct NPCC Culture.
1984 – The objectives of the Corps was modified in 1984 to reflect the intellectual dimension and national concerns while retaining the traditional emphases.
1987 – Also, the NPCC Pulau Ubin Camp Site was officially declared open in 1987.
Soaring Above The Ground
1991 – NTU NPCC Unit was established in 1991. In the same year, the training wing of NPCC HQ assisted in the training of police officers in campcraft who were scheduled to go on their first UN Peace Keeping Mission in
Namibia.
1994 – The Corps came closer to realize its dream to develop an NPCC Camp that could accommodate 750 campers when the Urban Redevelopment Authority leased to it a 26-hectare piece of land in Pulau Ubin in 1994.
1996 – The NPCC Mission Statement and Core Beliefs were formulated and adopted in 1996 to root the Corps in a strong and purposeful philosophy.
1997 – The most prestigious of the NPCC Badges - the SPF-NPCC Badge - was unveiled in 1997 and was awarded to 10 cadets in that same year during the NPCC Day Parade.
Sept 2000 – The idea to explore the set-up of the NPCC (Sea) Unit first surfaced during a meeting on the progress of the new NPCC campsite at Pulau Ubin. The meeting involved Deputy Commissioner of Police, Chairman NPCC Council and Commandant NPCC.
27 Nov 2001 – NPCC council gave in-principle approval to start the NPCC (Sea) Unit in two schools namely; Anglo-Chinese School (Independent) and
Springfield Secondary School.
January 2002 – The two schools initiated recruitment of cadets for the sea units.
20 April 2002 – The new NPCC Ceremonial Flag was launched during the NPCC Day Parade.
15 Jan 2003 – The two sea units were launched on together with the ground -breaking ceremony for the Loyang Regional Base.
2005 – Pioneer batch of Non-Commissioned Officers took over as the new leaders of the NPCC(Sea) units in Singapore.
2006 – Raffles Girls' School initiated recruitment of girl cadets for its all girl sea unit, the first in Singapore.
2006 – New Town Sec School and Hwa Chong Institution become the first two units to receive the Unit Excellence Award for ten consecutive Unit Overall Proficiency Gold Awards at the annual NPCC day parade 2006.

Again,from Wikipedia!

We are in the NPCC for 4 years or more! So,other than drill,PT and campcraft, what are we going to do.

This includes drill,PT and campcraft!

All cadets go through a 4/5 year course in their Secondary school, depending on their academic stream. Trainings may be once or twice weekly, varying from unit to unit.
Physical TrainingThis training session is meant to build up the cadet's physical fitness standard, with activities like running, push ups, situps, pull ups and resistance activities. All these activities push the cadets to try their very best to complete the task at hand, ignoring the pain and difficulty involved. Physical training sessions also aim to build up the cadets teamwork and camarederie, with rules such as 'Leave no man behind, run as a squad' and 'One for all, all for one' constantly emphasized on during running sessions.
Uniformed trainingThis training session takes place in full uniform and consists of drills and campcraft lessons. A typical session will include an Opening Parade at the start of training for a Teacher Officer to inspect the unit. Beforehand, a Uniform Inspection would have been carried out to ensure that the cadets' uniforms are in tip-top condition. After the Opening Parade, the unit breaks up into their respective academic levels, each level taken by a Drill Instructor. A Drill session follows, to train the cadets' discipline and alertness in responding to the commands. Drills taught vary greatly, from basic foot drills to baton and rifle drills.
After the drill session, cadets change into their PT kit for a campcraft session. Campcraft sessions are practical lessons on knot tying, lashings, tent making and pioneering.
The end of training is marked with a Closing Parade. This parade is a debrief of the cadets, and announcements on important matters of the unit.
Classroom LessonsClassroom lessons are occasionally organised by Teacher Officers or Police Officers to give cadets an insight into Police work or NPCC. These lessons can range from 'History of NPCC' to 'Crime Prevention Measures' to 'The 999 Emergency System'. Classroom lessons are meant to equip the cadets with a basic knowledge of the Singapore Police Force, and also basic crime prevention skills, which are very useful in daily life.
MarksmanshipCadets will get the opportunity to fire the .22 Smith & Wesson revolver and the Colt M16 rifle (NPCC Sea cadets only) in their NPCC life, as part of Marksmanship training. Weapon training sessions are always accompanied by a Police Officer, with an Officer to Cadet ratio of 1:1. This is to ensure the safety of the cadets involved in the shooting sessions. Shooting competitions are regularly organised between the different units, and cadets that have reached a benchmarked standard of shooting proficiency will receive a Marksmanship badge.
Cadet Inspectors and Officers have the opportunity to fire the .38 Taurus Model 85 revolver, which is the standard issue revolver used by the Singapore Police Force.
Proficiency BadgesProficiency Badges are awarded to cadets who have acquired a benchmarked level of proficiency in certain areas, be it Drills, Campcraft or Marksmanship. Badges are also awarded to cadets who have completed a course and taken a test on it, such as Crime Prevention, Total Defence or Narcortics.
When cadets are in the middle of their Secondary 3 academic year, they will be appointed as Non - Commissioned Officers. A course may be organised to determine their level of competency and their position as a CL [formerly known as NCO].
All cadets will pass out (be discharged) before they take their GCE 'O' Level Examinations or equivalent.
Selected senior cadets who are keen on contributing to the NPCC after their Secondary education are sent for the Cadet Inspectors' Basic Training Course.

1. Take your Kiwi polish and take the lid off.
2. Fill the lid with room temperature water.
3. Take your Kiwi cloth and wind part of it around your index finger.
4. Apply a generous coat of polish to your boot, applying it in a circular pattern.
5. Leave your boots for approximately 15-20 minutes or over night.
6. Dip you Kiwi cloth-covered finger into the water.
7. Dip the same finger into the polish but don't put to much polish on. A tiny amount will do.
8. Go over your boots in the same circular pattern and work them until there are no water dropplets left on your boot.

Thanks to Shae for this!

about our trainings (must read!!!)

Dear fellow squadmates;NCOs;CIs,

It is just a suggestion but i think that splitting into small groups would help as it is more easier to spot mistake and correct it on the spot. So, if all the NCOs came and the CIs decided to pay their attention on us , we will be able to have 6 groups(41/6 = 6R5). So, this would make the training much more easier. However, this way of training might make as feel devided as we did not train in a squad. So, please write down your comment about this on a new blog so that our NCOs know what to do.Pleaseeeeeeeeeee!!!

(SQUADMATES ONLY!!!)one more thing, you should love your training because they are fun, aren't they? At least it is better then going home and study study study. Personally, i feel that the training is very stress-releasing.After a week of non-stop studying, isn't is fun to do some drills and give in your full attention? Anyway,i always have good sleeps after the trainings and my appetite would increase also.Didn't you feel refreshed after the trainings?isn't it the best time for you to study? It is also a good chance for people who hates water to drink some water and stay healthy? So, be N2 about our trainings!Miss our NCOs!Miss our CIs!Miss our footdrills!Miss our short but fun waterbreaks!Miss your only chance of stree-release!Miss your NPCC trainings!!!!! last thing, dont 4got to practice your footdrills during the June holidays and do some pumpings!(most of all, train your self to shout loudly )

Yours sincerely,
CDT zhang haochen

(btw, isn't the photo nice!)
Can someone tell me where to get solid fuel, or can Haochen buy for the whole squad cos we need it for the camp?
Also, what do we do if we do not have enough PE shirts or pants because it is quite pointless to get another pair just for the yearly camp.
Furthermore, what is Grade 4 Twine?
PS:If you don't understand this means you haven't read the Unit Camp 2009 packig list email, so go read now!
Guys, your blog has been up for soooo long. What happen to the reflections?

As long as you don't criticise your NCOs/the trainings/any other officers or make any defamatory remarks, you are welcome to post any comments with regards to the training. The best thing would be that you suggest something to improve the trainings and get the whole squad to discuss it here.

If you guys are not going to contribute to this blog, who will? I seems to be posting more than so many of you, what for? This is your squad blog.

Anw, I see that many of you disapprove the idea of a squad outing, that is fine with me. It was merely a suggestion. If you have any ideas, feel free to post it up (not on the tagboard). Tagboards are meant for discussion and interaction.

Hope you guys make good use of this blog.

Hong Kang.

Tagboard?

Where is the tagboard? Put it up pls.

Anw, hope you guys enjoyed yourselves today. For those of you who were in the same room as me, I believed you saw me playing and interacting with the SJI guys? Yup, those are frens I got to know from opportunities like ATC (from the montage, the one with all the campfire and tent pitching). You will have yours too! And actually if you haven't notice, today is one good opportunity to make frens. For those of you who think you have wasted your time today, INDEED you have wasted your time, cuz you chose to waste it. Don't understand? Don't agree? It's again your choice.

Life is full of choices, you can choose to make your NCOs happy and be kind to you, or you can choose to make your NCOs unhappy. I am not asking you to tell me jokes or bribe me or some sort. Just do what we tell you to do.

Joke

Hihi!
Here is a good joke( i think): One day, a panda went to a restaurant. He ordered his food, ate it and when he was finished, one of the waiters came to him to collect his bills. But suddenly, he took out a gun, shoot the waiter and stands up to leave the restaurant. The manager rushes to him and ask:
"Why did you not pay for your food and shoot my waiter?"
The panda looks at him, then said:
" Go check your dictionary then."
Puzzled, the manager went to check his dictionary. He looked for the word "panda", and found the meaning: Panda, a mammal that eats, shoots and leaves.

NOTE: the dictonary has typo error XD ( should not have the comma)

Sry if it is not funny :(

Joke

This joke is quite funny. Some may have heard before but still, enjoy!
----------------------------------------------------------------------

A Minneapolis couple decided to go to Florida to thaw out during a particularly icy winter. They planned to stay at the same hotel where they spent their honeymoon 20 years earlier. Because of hectic schedules, it was difficult to coordinate their travel plans. So, the husband left Minnesota and flew to Florida on Thursday, with his wife flying down the following day.

The husband checked into the hotel. There was a computer in his room, so he decided to send an email to his wife. However, he accidentally left out one letter in her email address, and without realizing his error, sent the email.

Meanwhile, somewhere in Houston, a widow had just returned home from her husband's funeral. He was a minister who was called home to glory following a heart attack. The widow decided to check her email expecting messages from relatives and friends. After reading the first message, she screamed and fainted. The widow's son rushed into the room, found his mother on the floor, and saw the computer screen which read:

To: My loving wife

Subject: I've arrived

I know you're surprised to hear from me. They have computers here now and you are allowed to send emails to your loved ones. I've just arrived and have been checked in. I see that everything has been prepared for your arrival tomorrow. Looking forward to seeing you then. Hope your journey is as uneventful as mine was.

P.S. sure is freaking hot down here!!!!

5. NCOs in good mood + good drills = a lot of water breaks
6. CI also failed to light kerosene lamp + CI continue trying= sharp decrease in match supply

The bad compound
1. fire + hydrogen = run!!!
2. nvr do hmwk + teacher angry= uh oh
3. nvr do drills properly+ NCOs saw= semula
4. nvr get to a place in time+NCOs faster=whole squad knock it down!
5. NCOs in bad mood + bad drills= better drink lots of water before training
6. CI lighted kerosene lamp with match + some1 said he was just tyco= *sign*it's been nice knowing that guy...

Friday, May 8, 2009

I have removed the previous post as I hope this unpleasant matter will end and be forgotten. I hope you guys would continue to post on this blog, I don't will be its "killer".

Also, I will like to say thanks to those who have put in a lot effort in their drills and NPCC. I hope this level enthusiasm will not go down but instead go even higher in future. To the rest of you who are still not comfortable with the trainings, try to put in more effort. If you think you are not good at drills, you should consult your squadmates who are good at drills. Likewise, those who are better at drills, you should also help your squadmates.

NPCC is a learning journey, it's up to you whether you want to make it a meaningful one.

SO GUYS! COME ON and Make NCOs and CIs happy! Vote through Comment now!!!!! WooHooo!!!!!!
Dear Secondary One Squad,Mr Ong and I are very disappointed at the number of Sec 1s that needs to have their uniform parts changed, especially cadets whose uniform size needs to be changed greatly. (eg. from 1 to 5, or 5 to 8)Weren't I and your other fellow NCOs there during the uniform sizing to help you in getting the suitable size for your uniform? Why is it that there are still so many cadets that need their uniform parts to be changed? To Lim Yi Fan: Your belt was spoiled when it was given to me. Is it spoiled when the supplier gave it to you or you have spoiled it yourself? For the rest, I certainly want an explanation (by Tues 5/5 2200hrs) on why you have to change the size even though we were already there to help you during the sizing. Also, if it is because the supplier gave you the wrong size even though you have circled the correct one, do tell me so too.Squad i/c, please ensure your squadmates get this message.Lastly, I hope that the whole squad can reflect about and learn through this. Although this may seem to be a minor thing to you, it has caused much distress to your seniors that have to help you to bring all your uniform parts all the way down to Home Team Academy to change them for you. I hope to see that this incident will not happen again.Thank you.Your Sincerely,SSG PHANG HONG KEESECONDARY ONE SQUAD NCO

this is the massage by hong kee Sir. you noe wat to do. :(

NCOs

Dear fellow cadets,
this blog has been created for quite a long time, however, only xiaoqi had post on it, so,i came up with a new idea. Why dont you guys write about our NCOs.For example, it think Hong Kang Sir is the Cool one, Javan Sir is the calm and smart one, Kenneth Sir is the always happy and strong one ,Hong Kee Sir is the tall and mighty one and Terence Sir is the sometime joke around but sometime scary scary one.
So please write down what do you think about our NCOs and post it.

uniform

Dear Secondary One Squad,
Please check your uniform parts. If there are any errors in sizes (too small or too big), please reply to the email about the uniform parts and include what size you need to change to and bring them to school on Monday (4 May), and pass it to your Hong Kee sir at the benches at SALT Centre concourse. We will be changing the uniform parts for you.
